INTO THE MAZE
2025/26 SILK SCREEN PRINTING ON CONCRETE
The project draws upon the myth of the Minotaur. Fragments of tiles depicting mythical creatures—the ancient Russian lemur, the saber-toothed squirrel, the striped lynx, and others—pretend to be remnants of murals painted by an unknown artist bearing the initials “Fe, ” discovered during excavations of a mysterious labyrinth. We know nothing about this structure: its purpose, why it was adorned with animal imagery, or what caused its destruction.
In this project, I revisit the themes of mythmaking and the fragmentary nature of memory, reflecting on the futility of seeking a definitively established “historical truth.” Even when all factual events are verified and confirmed, a gray zone remains—the untraceable thoughts and motivations of those involved, often inaccessible even to themselves. Thus, any historical narrative, no matter how closely aligned with the sequence of events, is fundamentally a literary work: possessing its own intrinsic value, yet lacking a firm anchor in objective reality.
