THE FLOW OF LIFE

2015 CANVAS/INK, GILDING WAX

Almost everything in the world (any object, any phenomenon) can be described through the metaphor of water. Life itself is no exception. The diptych “The Flow of Life” consists of two independent works: “Tears” and “Ore” — symbols of profound upheavals and the enduring legacies they leave behind: treasures hidden within the human heart or deep beneath the surface of bedrock.

“Tears” are the physical manifestation of the nervous system’s response to pain or joy (positive or negative stress). They mark the passage through a pivotal threshold, the acquisition of new experience that, from that moment forward, becomes an inseparable part of one’s unique identity.

“Ore” rises to the surface through the slow, violent movement of tectonic plates. The formation of the Earth’s crust is fundamental and agonizing: two colossal masses press against each other with immense force, crushing the accumulated traces of millions of years of planetary life. Yet, it is precisely through this crushing pressure — amid layers of humus and mineral — that something extraordinarily precious is born: a gem, a vein, a spark of value that finds its place within the endless, flowing current of life itself.
